Piping & Drumming

Pipe and Drum Field

The Wisconsin Highland Games Champion Supreme Piping & Drumming competitions begin early Saturday and continue throughout the day, filling the air with the sounds of Highland bagpipes and drums.

Pipers and drummers compete in both solo and band events, playing different types of tunes such as marches, jigs, and piobaireachds (a long slow lament), as well as medleys, MSR (march, strathspey, and reel), and drum major competitions.

The entire grounds of the Wisconsin Highland Games become a giant world of piping, with individuals and pipe bands everywhere practicing, tuning, warming up, competing, or just having some fun.

The crowd favorite comes at the end of the day's competitions, when all the pipe bands come together for the Massed Bands performance.
